A television movie based on the MaryWinkler case is slated for Lifetime television’s 2011-2012 schedule, according to a press release from the network.
The film will be based upon the book, the Pastor’s Wife, by Dianne Fanning.
There is no word yet on who will appear in the movie or when the movie will air, according to a Lifetime spokesperson.
Matthew Winkler’s wife, Mary was charged with his murder but was convicted of voluntary manslaughter in 2007 and sentenced to three years. She was released after spending five months in the county jail and two months at a mental health facility undergoing therapy.
The case gained national notoriety due to charges of emotional, physical and sexual abuse by Matthew against Mary and of her involvement in check-kiting and Nigerian scams.
Fanning said that her book had been optioned and renewed, and she assumed that the film would be going into production soon. She said she researched the book by attending the trial and interviewing everyone who would talk to her, including local law enforcement, family and friends.
