Vada L. Templeton age 85, of Michie, Tennessee died June 1, 2011 at 2:45 PM at her home of Alzheimer’s Disease. Vada was a loving and compassionate woman with a great sense of humor. Friends, family and co-workers all loved her. Now she’s gone to heaven to meet up with many old friends and make new friends. She was born Vada Sanders on September 16, 1925 and grew up in Counce, Tennessee. She later married Grant Templeton on June 12, 1943. They lived in several places for short periods, but primarily they lived in Counce and Pickwick, Tennessee before moving to Boynton Beach and Lake Worth, Florida and later Peoria, Illinois - where she lived for 46 years. After they divorced, she bravely and successfully entered the business world to support herself and her young daughter. She was a proud woman and she wasn’t interested in living on public aid. She worked retail at Bergners, Grants and finally Ventures Stores where she was a department manager for 20 years. She loved to cook and her hand-grated fresh coconut cakes will be missed by many. She also enjoyed gardening, reading, playing cards and late in life became an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team. She loved watching the games on TV or listening on the radio. She could talk baseball with anybody.
She is survived by her daughter, Deb Templeton, and her son, Jean Templeton and his wife Carol, both of Michie, Tennessee. She is also survived by grandchildren and great grandchildren. The family pets will also mourn her loss. In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Legacy Hospice, 137 Cypress Ave, Selmer, TN 38375. Or you can honor her by providing time as a volunteer for Legacy Hospice or any hospice organization in your area. Caretakers greatly need this service and there’s a shortage of volunteers.
