Selmer tops Adamsville in state tournament

Selmer’s 11 and 12 year-old all-star team remained perfect Sunday afternoon in the 2011 Dixie Youth Majors State Tournament being held in Bolivar, Tenn. after beating county rival Adamsville by a final score of 8-3.
Adamsville came into the game having won their first round match-up against Madison Central 6-2.
Selmer approached their game against Adamsville with confidence having beaten Haywood County 15-0 in the first round of the tournament.
Logan Roberts gave Selmer a first inning lead with a home run blast to left-field that plated three runs. Selmer tacked on three more runs before the inning was over to make the score 6-0 at the end of the first.
Adamsville’s Hunter Butler answered back in the top of the third with a three-run home run of his own, making the score 6-3 in favor of Selmer going into the bottom of the inning.
Selmer’s Riley Martin put the icing on the cake with a two-run missile rocketed over the center-field wall, giving Selmer an 8-3 lead going into the final inning.
Sidney Rickman finalized the game and picked up the save for Selmer after striking out the side in the top of the sixth. Starting pitcher Tristan King was awarded the win.
Selmer moved on to play Madison South on Monday evening at 7 p.m. while Adamsville was forced into the loser’s bracket to face Parkwood later Sunday night.
In an elimination game played Sunday night Adamsville stayed alive in the tournament by beating Parkwood 12-2.
Continuing their run through the loser’s bracket on Monday night Adamsville’s defense came up big in a clutch situation when the game-tying run was thrown out at the plate, sealing a 4-3 victory for Adamsville.
At the time of print Adamsville is scheduled to play Madison South in Bolivar on Tuesday night at 5 p.m. If they win, they will advance to the semi-finals or finals of the state tournament depending on the outcome of Selmer and Madison Central.
Selmer’s all-stars marched into the semi-finals of the state tournament with a 3-0 record after trouncing Madison South Monday night by a final score of 16-6.
Selmer is set to face Madison Central Tuesday night at 7 p.m. at Lion’s Club Field in Bolivar.
With a win in that game the Selmer all-stars would have to be beaten twice in the championship round, and would play the winner of Adamsville and Madison South.

Ramer finished a terrific season Sunday night after a 5-1 loss in the 2011 Dixie Youth Majors State Championship Tournament to Bolivar who hosted the event at Bolivar Lion’s Club fields.
Ramer had fought off elimination in their previous game, played in the Sunday afternoon heat, with a 7-3 victory that sent Lexington’s team home from state championship contention.
The all-stars from Ramer found themselves in a elimination game with Lexington after losing in the opening round of the tournament in a tight game against Crockett County by a final score of 6-5.
Ramer’s 2011 run to the state tournament began July 15 with a 10-0 win over Fayette County in the first round of the District 2 Championship Tournament.
Their victory over Fayette County led to a match-up against Middleton that Ramer won handily, 15-3, earning their right to play in the championship game.Ramer was then crowned the 11 and 12 Year-Old District 2 Champions after beating Middleton in the championship game, 10-2, cementing their spot in the state tournament.
