Junior High Football Jamboree

McNairy County junior high and middle schools will compete in their annual football jamboree at McNairy Central High School Monday.

 Welcome former UT Volunteer Inky Johnson to Selmer

Join the McNairy County UT Alumni Chapter as they welcome Inky Johnson, University of Tennessee Volunteer and author of Inky: An Amazing Story of Faith and Perseverance.  

Johnson, a former UTK football player, tells his story of a career ending injury and how he has coped with this devastating change in his life. 

Do not miss this opportunity to witness how “faith and perserverance” have affected Johnson. 

The event will be held on Aug. 30 at 6 p.m. at the Selmer Civic Center.

Please RSVP by Aug. 26,. Cost for this event is $15 per person and includes dinner. Smothered chicken, broccoli and rice casserole, baked sweet potatoes, rolls, gourmet cupcakes and tea will be served.

 Lady Cardinal Basketball steak supper fundraiser

The Lady Cardinal Basketball team will be selling steak suppers on Aug. 26 before the football game against Bolivar Central.

Only $10 for steak, baked potato, salad, and drink. Dinner will be sold and served from 4:30-7 p.m. in the Adamsville High School cafeteria.

 Ramer Soccer Signups

This year Ramer is starting up a soccer league for ages 3-14. 

Signups will be Aug. 20 and Aug. 27 and Sept. 3 & 10 from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. at the Ramer Ball Park by the concession stand. 

Cost will depend on what you need...$25 for a jersey or $40 jersey, socks, and shorts.

 Selmer fall sports sign-ups

The Selmer Parks and Recreation Department is currently taking sign-up for softball, soccer, and basketball.

Soccer and softball will begin in September, and the deadline to sign-up is Aug. 29. The deadline for basketball sign-ups is Oct. 31.

Register during regular business hours, Monday – Friday from 8 a.m. – 8 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the Selmer Community Center.

 USGA Mixed Team National Championship

The United States Golf Association will hold the first annual U.S. Mixed Team National Championship Sept. 23-25 at Pickwick Landing State Park Golf Course.

The field will be limited to 40 teams, and to compete in the event you must be a US Couples Golf Association member and above the age of 18 to enter.

The competition will be flighted so all competitors have a fair opportunity to finish “in the money.” Prizes include $200 per team in gifts and over $10,000 in prizes.

Show your Cardinal spirit by purchasing an “I AM A CARDINAL” t-shirt and wearing it to the first home football game Aug. 26.

T-shirts will be sold for $12 and will be available in adult and youth sizes.
