The Lady Blue Devils' hot streak continued in Adamsville last Thursday when Michie's girls picked up their 12th straight win with a 21-point victory over the Junior Lady Cardinals.

Down early in the game, the Adamsville Cardinals fought back for a 34-24 victory against the Bolivar Central Tigers last Friday night.

In the only junior high match up between two McNairy County teams the Adamsville Junior High Cardinals hosted the Michie Blue Devils at Lendon Martin Memorial Stadium last Thursday to officially kickoff the 2011 season.

Selmer 9-10 Year Old All-Stars came away with two wins in the Dixie Youth AAA World Series last weekend as they represent Tennessee.

The Cardinal football team tuned up for the regular season with a 14-0 victory over the Eagles of Jackson Christian School at the Star Physical Therapy Jamboree at Chester County High School Friday night.

County junior high football teams have begun practice and are preparing for the start of the season with an annual Junior High Jamboree, which will be held  Aug. 22 at McNairy Central High School.

Not only football has kicked off in August, but golf went into full swing late July with a tournament in Lawrence County where the McNairy Central Bobcats placed third out of 10 teams with an overall score of 311.

A new volleyball season approaches for McNairy Central and the girls practice and strive to build a team that will hold up as well as the team did last year when they finished second in the district.

Selmer’s 11 and 12-year-old all-stars made it to the semi-finals of the 2011 Dixie Youth Majors State Tournament, and finished in third place last Wednesday after falling 5-4 to Madison Central at Lion’s Club Field in Bolivar, Tenn.

Originally from Walnut, Miss., Michael Stroup attended high school at Alcorn Central.

Stroup is married to the former Holly Smith of Selmer, Tenn. and the two have two young boys, Jackson and Knox.

Jim Glover was born to be a Bobcat. He currently holds the position as head coach of McNairy Central Bobcat football. 

On August 28, 2011, Benjie Case will swim 2.4 miles, 1 of which will be upstream, in the Ohio River, bike 112 miles on a hot, hilly trail, and then run 26.2 miles in high-90’s heat and high-humidity.

Adamsville High School’s baseball field is currently going through a renovation process.  With the assistance of coaches, players, city workers, and community members, Cardinal head baseball coach Steven Lambert removed over 15 pallets of sod from Cardinal Field last week.

Selmer 11 and 12-year-old All-stars sponsored by McNairy Regional Hospital won their first game in District 7 at Adamsville 3-2 on Friday.

From the Sunshine State of Florida, Coach Larry Williams of Selmer Lions Football has found a home in McNairy County.

“AHS is a great place to teach and work,” were Coach Todd McGee’s thoughts on being in Adamsville. “We all treat each other like family. I have had folks put out feelers to me to determine if I had interest in other jobs, but I haven’t ever considered leaving AHS.”

Saturday, June 4 began the final day of the School’s Out Spectacular hosted by the Adamsville Redbirds.

The Adamsville Redbirds played host to Middleton Friday as pool play continued at Cardinal Field in the Schools Out Spectacular baseball tournament. 

Traffic and business boomed following memorial weekend because of the McNairy Central Team Camp held from Tuesday, May 31, to Friday, June 3. 

The Adamsville Redbirds hosted their Out-of-School Baseball Spectacular last week from Thursday, June 2 to Saturday, June 4 at McNairy Central and Adamsville high schools.
