Approximately 50 runners took their mark at the starting line last Saturday morning at The Marty Community Center in Adamsville for the 3rd Annual 5K Run for the Paws, but the running excitement did not stop there.

Several traveled to Selmer immediately after to compete as part of the 75 participants who registered for the 2nd Annual Fall Hog 5K held at Selmer City Park.

Tina Churchwell of the McNairy County Humane Society announced that morning that 858 dogs and puppies have been adopted so far this year.

“With the money raised, this is what we do,” said Churchwell. Very pleased with the participation in the 5K event, she encouraged more to join next year.

The fun didn’t stop after racing one 5K for runners Linda Dewberry, Amy Smith, Sharon Keen, and Terry Taylor. They finished off the day accumulating a 10K run in just a matter of hours.

A special award was given for perseverance and endurance to Team Miracle. Member Nathaniel Overman, who has cerebral palsy, finished the race along with his cousin showing courage, strength, and integrity.
