The Ramer Eagles hosted the Blue Devils of Michie last Thursday. Ramer’s defense made a huge statement as the team picked up their second county win.

The county match up against the Blue Devils was a big one for the Eagles. Michie came into the game with one of the counties best running games but was kept out of the end zone by the enthusiastic Eagles.

“Michie is a hard-nosed team,” said Ramer head coach Jeremy Blakely. “We were concerned about how tough we actually were, but we showed tonight that we can be as tough as any team in the county.”

The Eagles had a difficult task in stopping Dylan Whirley, the Blue Devil’s biggest offensive threat. Whirley has been running well in the young season and looks to be one of the standout backs in the county. The biggest problem for the Blue Devils was turnovers. The Eagle defense was able to force four take-aways in the game, and it really set the tempo.

Ramer’s offense came out fired up as well. The opening shot was fired in the first quarter when running back Kylin Wynn broke away from the defense and ran the ball into the end zone. Wynn went on to continue his hard running and added another touchdown to the stat sheet in the second quarter, and he added a third after half time. The Eagles would put their fourth and final touchdown on the board with a little more than five minutes left in the fourth quarter. The score, once again, came on the ground, but this time by Chase Burdette.

“We have to play one game at a time,” said Blakely. “We have a tough opponent next week. Bethel has a great team, and we will have to play a great game to come away with the win.”

Before they play Bethel for the county championship, the Eagles (3-0, 2-0) will have to get past the Selmer Lions (2-1, 1-1) at home Thursday. The Blue Devils (1-2, 1-2) will host the Middleton Tigers.
