Selmer City Park to
get new playground equipment

Director of Selmer Parks and Recreation, Sybil Dancer, announced this week that several pieces of old playground equipment at Selmer City Park will be replaced with newer equipment, bought with money from the Local Parks and Recreation Fund grant, this month.

“We are going to be putting in new swings, climbing things, and some other equipment,” said Dancer. 

Workers will begin taking out the old equipment from the swing set area of the park this week. The new equipment will be ready to use by the middle of this month.

Milledgeville city
election votes tallied

Milledgeville held an election for Mayor and Board of Alderman on Saturday.

All candidates were running unopposed. Dannie Kennedy garnered 30 votes for Mayor. 

Hershel Hollin received 15 votes and Rickie Hollin 14 votes for the two McNairy County positions.

Brenda Essary was elected to the Hardin County position with 6 votes and Steve Hutton received 5 votes for the Chester County position.

Milledgeville is unusual in that it straddles three counties.

Gas prices drop
despite higher oil prices

Although retail gas prices continued to fall last week, the price of crude oil increased slightly. 

The national average price of unleaded regular gasoline is $3.79 a gallon, down six cents. Tennessee’s average price of $3.58 per gallon is a 9-cent decrease from last week.
