Employers braved the flooding and stormy weather to honor their administrative staff last Wednesday.
The luncheon, held at the Marty in Adamsville, named Pamela Durbin, of Monogram, as the 2011 Administrative Professional of the year. Andi Litz nominated her.
“I was very honored to be nominated and overwhelmed to win,” she said.
She is a Human Resources Administrative Assistant and has worked at her present company since 2000.
Durbin was chosen from six nominees.
They were: Mae Wallace, Sandy Robinson, Rowena Pope, Brandy Jones, Sharon Duncan and Durbin.
Wallace works at the McNairy County Health Department and was nominated by Beth Hamilton and Chris Morris.
Robinson is employed at the County Mayor’s office and was nominated by Jai Templeton.
McNairy County Health Care Center garnered three nominees: Rowena Pope, Brandy Jones and Sharon Duncan. They were nominated by Justin Broadway.
The event was hosted by the McNairy Regional Alliance (MRA) in honor of Administrative Professionals Week.
Leah Gray, the Dean of Continuing Education and Community Service at Jackson State Community College, was the keynote speaker at the luncheon.
She spoke on the value and importance of administrative professionals in companies. She also emphasized the need for these professionals to be continual learners. She noted that those workers who are progressive in their learning and dedicated to their companies will be promoted.
Russell Ingle, Director of Chamber Programs for the MRA, called the event “phenomenal. When you take into account the we had severe weather and employers took time out to give recognition to their employee, it was a great day.”
Seventy-eight or 79 guests attended the luncheon, Ingle said.
Employees and their employers dined on a delicious lunch catered by the Mulberry Manor restaurant.
“From start to finish, everything went really well because of the people involved,” Ingle said.
Tracy Helmuth of the MRA was in charge of reservations while Renee Moss, Patsy Pearson and Melissa Ingle were on the committee that chose the administrative professional of the year.
