Meet the Michie candidates

Two candidates will be vying for Mayor and two running unopposed for two Aldermen positions in the Aug. 27 elections.

Early voting runs from Aug. 8-22 at the Election Commission Office in the basement of the court house in Selmer. Hours are from 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m Monday through Friday and 9 a.m.-12 p.m on Saturday.

Current Aldermen Anthony Smith and Mike Glisson will square off for the Mayor’s job and Brandon Nabors and Jed Baker will run for Aldermen.

Smith has lived in Michie since 1969 and is in his fourth term on the County Commission and is ending his third term as a Michie Alderman. He helped organize the Michie Fire Department and served as its chief for 13 years. Smith owns both MRF Recycling and American Johnny. He has been married for 42 years and has two children. He is a member of the Church of Prophecy, where he is a deacon.

Glisson has been a Michie Alderman since 2010 when he was nominated to fill the unexpired term of Frank Carroll. He is the President of Owl Creek Lumber Co. of Selmer. He has been married to Jeanine Tucker Glisson, the daughter of Roy and Wanda Tucker, for 26 years. Glisson graduated from Corinth High School. He worked for Conley Supply Co. until 1986, and then worked for M. L. Sandy lumber until 2007 when he left to form Owl Creek.

He graduated from Adamsville High School in 1999. He is a licensed contractor as well as being employed by Golden Flake as a salesman. He has been married to Alicia Nabors for the past six years and they have a three-year old daughter named Ava. They are members of  the Church of God of Prophecy in Michie.

Attempts to contact Jed Baker were unsuccessful.
