McNairy County 4-H Horse Project Group Participates in Contests

The McNairy County Horse Project Group, led by Volunteer Leaders Marie Pittman and Hilda Ashe, has been very active this school year.  Members of the project group participated in the following three contests this year:  Horse Bowl,  Hippology, and  Horse Judging.  All of these contests required preparation by attending bi-weekly practices for 4-6 weeks.  Pictured here are participants in the Regional Horse Bowl and Hippology Contests (front row, l to r):  Leslie Young, Gabrielle Forsythe, and Danielle Harstin;  2nd row, l to r):  Danielle Forsythe, Miranda Pittman, Briana Wilson, and Macey Johnson;  (3rd row, l to r): Matthew Mullins and Riley Johnson.  

Participants in the Regional Horse Judging Contest were (front row, l to r):  Eric Henson, Riley Johnson, Danielle Forsythe, Gabrielle Forsythe, and Danielle Harstin;  (2nd row, l to r): Spencer Brown, Coach Marie Pittman, Miranda Pittman, Briana Wilson,  Macey Johnson, Logan Young, and 4-H Agent Julie Harstin.  McNairy County Extension offers programs in agriculture and natural resources, 4-H youth development, family and consumer sciences, and resource development.  The University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture, U.S. Department of Agriculture, and McNairy County governments are cooperating.  UT Extension provides equal opportunities in programs and employment.  Other Horse Project Group activities this school year have included a horse riding day at Judy Presley’s farm, a fundraiser to fund t-shirts for the group, demonstrations, Honor Club applications, project achievement competitions, and participation in horse riding lessons and horse shows by some members.
