MCHS preseason lifts off against USJ

After hosting their first ever football camp this summer, the McNairy Central Bobcats made a premier July 19 at the University School of Jackson. The teams went head-to-head with 7 on 7 scrimmages.
Each team had their turn at 10 offensive plays and then switched to defense to give the linebackers an observation.
The scrimmage came to an end as the sun rose into the sky with five different players scoring touchdowns for McNairy Central.
Casey Aiken, a newcomer to the team, Jarrett Mood, starting freshmen from last year returning as a sophomore, Austin Gafford, a new face in football, and seniors Jack Smith and Tanner Tranum reached the end zone in the scrimmage against USJ.
Thirteen seniors left the roster from last season. Underclassmen Sean Johnson at cornerback, John Graham at running back and receiver, and Cody Turner as a strong safety stepped up and brought new action on the field.
“They weren’t big-eyed and scared; at least they didn’t seem to be,” said Coach Jim Glover. “This is the first competition for a lot of those guys.”
“Overall it was a teaching point for us,” said Glover. “We are putting in an entirely new passing game. We are starting from scratch with it. Running the ball is going to be our strong suit. As far as our performance, I thought we did real well.”
