Lady Cats Volleyball partakes in Play Day

Senior Rachel Burns (#10) and junior Tiffany Winebrenner (#11) stretch to block a spike by a Dyersburg Lady Trojan as senior captain Tierra Lusk (#12) looks on.

McNairy Central’s Lady Bobcat Volleyball Team traveled to Henderson, Tenn. Saturday to partake in Freed Hardeman University’s high school volleyball play day.

The Lady Cats played 45 minute matches against University School of Jackson, Trinity Christian Academy, and Dyersburg High School.

MCHS lost their first match to the Lady Bruins of USJ, but head coach Crystal Slaughter chalked that one up to nerves.

“During the second game I could see the nerves start to go away,” said Slaughter, and she was right.

Despite losing their match to TCA, the team showed consistent improvement throughout each game of the match falling 25-17 in the first, 25-22 in the second, and by winning a time shortened third game against the Lady Lions 12-8.

In the Lady Bobcat’s third match of the night they fell in three straight games, 25-14, 25-14, and 18-9, to the Lady Trojans of Dyersburg who made it to the third round of the AA State Tournament in 2010, and finished with a 35-5 record overall.

MCHS’s play day at FHU was a tune up for the regular season’s matches that began Monday against an one of Central’s Saturday opponents, USJ.
