Ms. Fairy McAlpin has been a resident of McNairy County Health Care Center since June 6, 2006. I always call her “Fairy Ruth” which brings a smile. But she will say to me, “you know that is not my name”. Her nickname is actually “Julie”.

One of the most important parts of my day is to make the residents smile, to feel accepted and important. Each of our residents are very important. They have a great life to be shared, stories of struggles and joys they have faced. Ms. Fairy McAlpin is one of those great stories.

Ms. Fairy is the mother of three children, Carolyn Townsend, Charles McAlpin of Middleton, TN and Barbara Stamey of Bolivar, TN. She is also grandmother to seven grandchildren, great grandmother to nine great grandchildren and step great grandmother to three children. Now that’s a lot of greats for such a great lady.

Ms. Fairy loves her church, New Bethany Church of Christ. She also enjoys listening to Bluegrass and gospel music. She likes to watch football and basketball games, often trying to guess who will win and what the final score will be. Game shows such as Jeopardy, The Price is Right and Wheel of Fortune are also favorites of Ms. Fairy’s.

Ms. Fairy has two brothers, Buster Howell of Middleton and James Omer Howell of Bethel Springs, TN. She also has two sisters Dorothy Simpson and Lucille Graritt of Middleton, TN. Ms. Fairy enjoys the time she gets to spend with each of her family.

If you need a little help playing a game show or trying to guess who might win the World Series or the Super Bowl, just ask Ms. Fairy. I’m sure she would love to share her thoughts or maybe even a story. After all, she is a very kind and gentle lady with a “great” story to tell!

Until next time.....
