Industry leads property tax rolls

About half of the top commercial property values in McNairy County are represented by industry. Aqua Glass comes in at number 1, Henco at number 5, General Electric at number 7, Spectrum at number 8 and United Stainless at number 9.
Three of the top ten commercial properties come from the healthcare industry. McNairy County Hospital is second, Tri-County Convalescent Home is fourth and McNairy County Long Term Healthcare is sixth.
Wal-Mart is the lone representative of retail and East Adamsville Development Corporation is the only real estate business on the list.
Public utilities compose half of the list of the top ten property tax receipts in 2010, according to figures provided by McNairy County Trustee Stanley Mitchell’s office. Pickwick Electric Cooperative is at the top of the list, with other public utilities Norfolk Southern IC BR. at number 3, Tennessee Gas Pipeline Co. at number 5, CenturyTel of Adamsville at number 7 and Norfolk Southern – Memphis coming in at number 8.
Manufacturing companies were the next most common category on the list with four entries. The top manufacturing concerns were United Stainless at number 2, Aqua Glass Corp. at number 4, Monogram Refrigeration at number 9 and MASCO Bath at number 10. The top ten list is rounded out by one representative each of the healthcare and energy industry. Tennessee Gas Pipeline is at number 5 on the list and is followed by McNairy County Hospital.
United Stainless posted the strongest growth over the past six years, moving from number 21in taxes paid in 2004 to number 2 last year. The amount of tax it paid increased eight-fold, from $15,738 in 2004 to $90,594 last year.
