•State Fair Pageant
Applications are being accepted for the 2008 Fairest of the Fair pageants, sponsored by the West Tennessee State Fair, to be held Sept. 9, 10, 11 and 13 at the Fairgrounds in Jackson. Baby contest for girls only will be on Saturday, Sept. 13, for ages 0-35 months. Entry forms and further info may be obtained by calling 424-0151 or visiting the website at wtsfair.com

•St. Jude’s Marathon
Team Molly B will be competing in the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital Marathon on Dec. 6th. Mt. Gilead Baptist Church has formed this team to raise money in memory of Molly Burns. Running as St. Jude Heroes will be Kyle Burns, Hannah Lipford, Shelby and Lisa Moore, and Jonathon Nixon. The team will raise money up until the marathon through different events for St. Jude. One upcoming event will be a yard sale on Aug. 30 in the parking lot of Allstate Insurance in Selmer. •Story time at Library
At 10:30 a.m. on Fridays, McConnico Library will sponsor a children’s story time. This will include youth through age 12. There will be stories, games, crafts, singing and refreshments. Please plan to attend.

•Bethel Springs Bluegrass Show
Bethel Springs Community Center on the 1st Saturday of every month, featuring 3 bands. Doors open at 5:15 and show starts at 6.

•Smoking Cessation Classes
Ready to quit smoking? Now’s your chance...! Smoking Cessation Classes will be offered by Magnolia Regional Health Center beginning September 8th at 5:00 p.m. The courses will meet once a week for 7 weeks at MRHC Community Service Complex. This course is covered by most insurances.

•Mile Markers Walking Club
Put on your shoes and join the McNairy County Mile Markers. Receive a t-shirt at the starting line and rewards along the way as we walk our way towards a healthier tomorrow. A planning meeting for a benefit for Brandon Moore (being treated for Hodgkin’s Lymphoma) will be at 7 p.m. on Thurs., Aug. 28 at the Stantonville Community Center. Brandon is the son of Tammy and Jimmy Moore. All interested community members are invited.

•Democrat Dinner

•Alumni Reunion
McNairy County High School Alumni annual school reunion Aug. 29 and 30 at the center on Lipford Rd. Fri., Aug. 29 7-10 p.m. open social. Sat., Aug. 30 1-3 p.m. lunch; program 7-10 p.m. Everyone invited to take part in the celebration.

The Mary Lou Johnson Scholarship Foundation will be having a car wash on Sat., Aug. 30 at the BP station in Selmer.

•Moose Family Picnic Day
1-4 p.m. on Sat., Aug. 30 at the Moose Family Center. Food, fun, games and fellowship for everyone. Magic show and cakewalk.

September 1

•Henson Reunion
The Henson family reunion will be Mon., Sept. 1, beginning at 11 a.m. at the Eastview Civic Center. Bring your favorite foods and desserts, and any favorite pictures. Lunch around noon.

•Fish Fry & Bluegrass
Guys Ruritan Club will be sponsoring the annual fish fry and bluegrass on Sept. 1 at the Guys Town Center. Fish, hushpuppies, fries, slaw, dessert and drinks. Music at 5 p.m., food at 6 and music will resume at 7. Special performers are the Hatchie Bottom Boys. Admission is $8.50/adult and $5/children 10 and under.

•22nd Annual Goodyear Car & Bike Show
Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 1, at the South front lawn, Goodyear - Union City property. Over $1 million worth of street rods will be on display (provided by nationally known Legens Hot Rods). Door prizes, music, food, and fun activities for family members of all ages. Registration begins at 8:00 a.m. and ends at 12 noon. •Golf Tournament
The 9th Annual Benefit Golf Tournament, sponsored by the Shiloh Golf Course, will be on Thurs., Sept. 4. Lunch provided at noon followed by shotgun start at 1 p.m. $250 entry per 4 person scramble. $100 hole sponsorship. •Benefit
A benefit for Sammy Henson, a cancer patient, will be on Saturday, Sept. 6, beginning at 10 a.m. at 452 Airport Road. Whole hog BBQ by the pound, plate or sandwich, BBQ bologna, hotdogs, drinks. Backroads and other musicians will be performing. Auction at 7 p.m.
