Guys passes annual budget

Guys mayor and board of aldermen met in regular session July 18 and reviewed and approved the final reading of the 2011 – 2012 budget totaling $167,487.00.

The board also approved in a second reading an amendment to the fire department 2010-2011 budget from $5,500 to 6,500 and the building and grounds budget from $21,924.31 to $22,000.

The board also discussed four items for the Tennessee Municipal League non-profit pool insurance with Chambers Insurance requiring all fire extinguishers tagged and checked, no combustible materials stored by a HVAC unit, oil and mechanical fluids cleaned daily in the fire dept. and the radio tower at the end of the town center be properly grounded.

All points are to be addressed and the tower removed over the next sixty days. 

Mayor Keith Rinehart also discussed receipt of a letter from the state regarding the need for a guard rail on the bridge on Capooth Road. Alderman Chris Howard was absent, but relayed he set up an account to purchase the cold mix at $90 ton for road repair and had discussed stripping roads with Brad Johnson. The mayor also stated that the city would solicit some quotes on paving for the city roads.

The city also approved replacement of the culvert and ditch repair near Will Luster’s place on S. Gin Road as water is standing on road often. The work will be done by Dudley Ingram.

Alderman Dickey reported the tire on the tanker truck was still in need of repair and a loose cilinoid needed to be recapped. 

Alderman Wayne Henry reported a couple of families had utilized the building for functions during the month. “We might just think about increasing our fee from $50 to $75  and either lower the refundable deposit of $100 or make it $75 as the fee does not even cover the costs of cleaning the building after use. I know we want to keep the fees as low as we can and if a large family needs the building for use to gather after a funeral we always donate the building, but for planned events we need to cover our costs,” he continued.

The board approved an increase in the building rent to $75 and to maintain the refundable deposit of $100. 

Mayor Rinehart discussed an easement on the Butler’s property to service tornado sirens on their property was going well and just needed the property owners signature.

Meeting minutes and the financial report were approved in regular business and the meeting was adjourned.
