Nursing is an art, and if it to be made into art, it requires an exclusive devotion and as hard a preparation as any painter’s or sculptor’s work. So what is art on dead canvas or dead marble compared with the art of caring for the living body, the temple of God’s spirit? It is one of the fine arts; the finest of fine arts as quoted by one of the greatest nurses of all time, Florence Nightingale.

May is the month when we honor nurses and our DON, Nichole King and all the other staff and residents of McNairy County Health Care Center would like to take this opportunity to honor our nurses. Nursing is a hard job that requires not only dedication but compassion for your fellow man or woman.

So on a fine Saturday morning, I set out to ask our residents to tell me about our nurses. Ms. Willodean Clayton said her favorite nurse is Annette Spencer because she is so good to her. Ms. Willodean stated that Annette does everything she asks her to do. She also stated that she loved Pam Perkins because she is so much fun and she is always glad to see Rachel Brown at night.

Mr. Malcolm Hooper stated he would also vote for Pam Perkins and Cat Damron, two of his favorite nurses. Mr. Ramey Wilson said they all do a good job but Nancy Gray is just a little “extra special”. Mr. X.L. Hunter said he would cast a vote for Annette also. Ms. Dottie Isbell and Ms. Mary Gillham also voted for Nancy. Mr. J.W. Sparks voted for Sarah Hill. As for Billy Joe Carroll, he just “loves” Lisa Partain who comes in on her day off to take him on an outing. Ms. Anne Manley said she would vote for Carol Petty and Ms. Maggie Lawson cast her vote for me (Yeah) and Tamela King. Ms. Marilyn Ward also voted for Tamela. Ms. Ethel Greer and Ms. Margaret Whitley said they like them all!

As for me, we could not survive with out all of our nurses. They all work very hard. Deanna, Marilyn, Tammy and Genevieve, our skilled nurses, take very good care of our skilled patients. The charge nurses, Pam Elam, Megan Owens, Red, Brandy, Tracey, Thea and all the others provide excellent care for our residents every day. They all strive to provide the highest level of patient care possible in the nursing field.

All of the staff and residents of McNairy County Health Care Center would like to commend each of you for a job well done! Thank you for all you do!

Until next time…..
