Adamsville High School’s boys’ soccer team was eliminated from the District 15A-AA Tournament Monday by Liberty Tech Magnet High School with a final score of 3-0.
The Cardinals began their first round tournament match-up with solid ball control early, keeping the much faster Crusader squad from controlling the game’s tempo.
A scary moment for Cardinal fans occurred when sophomore forward Christian Yanok collided with a Liberty defender in an attempt to get a shot on goal for Adamsville.
He was shaken up, and did not return to action, but was not seriously injured.
Shortly after, Liberty Tech struck, scoring the first goal of the game around the 30-minute mark of the first half, giving the Crusaders a 1-0 advantage.
In the second half the Cardinals found themselves struggling to maintain the ball control that kept the Crusader offensive attack at bay in the first half.
Goalkeeper Josh Shoate made several terrific stops in the contest, but the pressure put on by Liberty caused the Cardinals’ defense to crack, allowing the Crusaders to squeak another goal past Shoate at the 26-minute mark of the second half.
As the game was winding down, the Cardinals still could not put any pressure on Liberty’s defense.
In the 37th minute of the second half, a Crusader forward put the icing on Liberty’s cake, scoring the third goal of the contest, and closing the door on Adamsville’s district tournament desires.
The Cardinals finished the season with 3 wins, 6 losses and 2 ties.
Coaches Steven Price and Richard White will lose no seniors, and return 13 players from this year’s squad next season.
