The McNairy County Commission approved a proposal by Advanced Correctional Health Care to provide health care for 90 inmates for a year at a cost of approximately $60,000 for one year. Last year $134,000 was spent to care for 45 inmates, Sheriff Guy Buck said in a later interview..

This was the last commission meeting that Mayor Jai Templeton will be presiding over. He will be leaving June 1 to become Deputy Commissioner of Agriculture.

Templeton had a few farewell remarks for the meeting.

“You’ve been a privilege to serve with. You have made a difference in this county. I have no qualms whatsoever about who may sit where I sit because of the people who sit there (the commission) and the people who sit in the other offices. You have developed a reputation for cooperation and the ability to disagree agreeably,” he told the commission.

His remarks were followed by a standing ovation.

In other actions, the commission:

• Adopted the Three-Star Strategic Plan. This program is a state program certifying best practices in economic development and helps the county with things like grants. The county has earned Three-Star certification every year since the program began about 30 years ago.

• Appointed Leapwood Fire Chief Dennis Finley, Ramer Fire Chief Jamie Robertson and Sheriff Guy Buck to the E-911 board. 

• Appointed commissioners Fred Carroll, Kevin Lipford, Tammy Dillon, Stevie Clark and Charles Garrison to the Tax Sale Committee.
