Copper thief caught

Joshua Purvis

The man responsible for leaving Shackleford Funeral Directors in Adamsville unusable over the Memorial Day weekend was apprehended Wednesday night around 11 p.m. outside of Adamsville, according to McNairy County Sheriff Guy Buck.

Joshua M. Purvis was arrested Wednesday at a residence on Old Stage Road outside of the Adamsville City Limits.

Sheriff Buck reported that the man had officially been charged with only two counts of aggravated burglary but said the McNairy County Sheriff’s Department anticipated additional charges being brought against the young man.

Sheriff Buck also reported that Purvis was cooperating with authorities and providing them information relevant to charges being brought against him.

The McNairy County Sheriff’s department is now in the process of verifying the information provided by Purvis in relation to his apprehension.

Adamsville Police Department’s Police Chief Bill McCall said, “Josh Purvis confessed to the theft of the copper coiling at Shackleford Funeral Directors in Adamsville.”

“He (Purvis) first confessed to the investigator at the McNairy County Sheriff’s Department,” said McCall, “and then he confessed to me and claimed he sold the metal at Smith Metal Company Inc. in Selmer.”
