The Adamsville High School Football Team put on their annual Twilight Golf Tournament at Shiloh Golf Course over the weekend.

The event hosted 25 four-man teams for a scramble that began during the day but finished in the darkness of a hot July summer night with the assistance of golf balls known as glow-balls that are illuminated by a small glow-stick that is placed in the ball’s core.

There were two scoring flights for Friday’s tournament, and the overall winner of the event was the Aqua Glass team represented by Ross and Scott Shelton, Joey Whitten, and former McNairy Central Bobcat and University of Tennessee Volunteer John Finlayson who turn in a 55 on the par 71 course.

Because there were two scoring flights the top three teams from each carried home a cash prize. First place was awarded $200, second won $100, and third place teams were given $75 for their performances.

Event coordinator and head football coach at AHS Brandon Gray was pleased with the turnout for Friday’s tournament.

“I feel like we had a good turnout. We had 25 teams. I had a few more last year,” said Gray, “but the weather being hot might have had something to do with it.”

Gray estimates that the tournament, after expenses, may have brought in around $2000.

“This is one of our biggest fundraisers of the year,” said Gray, “and we’re glad people come out and help our football team.”

Gray said the proceeds will go toward buying equipment for players, supplies for field maintenance, and various other football needs.

“We’re not a very big school, but we take care of our players,” said Gray. “It’s no cost to a parent” to play for AHS’s football team.
