Busy week for Rowdy Hardy includes game vs. Red Wings

McNairy Central’s own Rowdy Hardy traveled from Pearl, Miss., to Gwinnett County, Ga., after being called up to the Atlanta Brave’s Triple-A affiliate Gwinnett Braves May 14.

Unfortunately, Hardy was sent back to Double-A in Pearl over the weekend, but not before making his Triple-A debut in Gwinnett Tuesday, May 17.

The following game account was summarized according to game records kept on minorleague
baseball.com:

Hardy made his first appearance as a Gwinnett Brave in the fifth inning of a game in which the Braves were trailing  4-0 against the Rochester Red Wings.

The first batter Hardy faced singled to center, but Hardy was not shaken and struck out the following Red Wing hitter.

Hardy walked the next batter, but ended the inning by forcing Rochester’s Chase Lambin to ground into a 5-4-3 double play.

Hardy made quick work of the Red Wing hitters in the top of the sixth, striking out one while retiring the side in order.

In the top of the seventh, Hardy allowed a lead-off single on a soft ground ball to second base. In the ensuing at-bat, a Red Wing hitter reached base on an error committed by Gwinnett’s first baseman, Mauro Gomez, that also allowed the lead-off hitter to reach third base.

Hardy shook off the misfortune once again and struck the next batter out, but walked the following batter, bringing on a pitching change by the Braves’ coaching staff.

Hardy was in line for the win before his replacement, Juan Abreu, allowed both of the inherited Hardy runners to cross the plate, saddling Hardy with the loss as the Braves fell to the Red Wings 7-6.

Hardy was moved back to the Braves’ Double-A affiliate in time to make an appearance against the Jackson Generals on Saturday.

Hardy pitched two innings of relief and allowed 0 runs, striking out 1 batter while walking 2.
