The McNairy Central High School Bobcats took their run-scoring show on the road Saturday, traveling west on Highway 64 to Somerville to take on Fayette Academy. Six innings later, MCHS took down the Vikings, 12-1.

“We have really played well our last three games,” said Coach Brian Franks. “I believe we are peaking at the right time.”

The Bobcats scored a single run in the top of the first inning to take an early 1-0 lead.

Starting pitcher Blake Chandler did not allow Fayette Academy to score in the bottom of the inning and MCHS took its lead to the second.

Neither team scored in the second inning and the Bobcats were also held scoreless in the top of the third inning.

The Vikings got on the board in the bottom of the inning, scoring a single run and sending the game to the fourth, tied 1-1.

MCHS posted three tallies in the top of the fourth, retaking the lead, 4-1.

Chandler posted another zero in the fourth, helping MCHS retake control of the contest and take a 4-1 lead to the fifth.

The Bobcats scored one run in the top of the fifth to lead 5-1 after Chandler again stopped the Vikings in the bottom of the inning, but the contest was still in doubt.

MCHS erased all doubt by exploding for seven big runs in the top of the sixth. The game was called after Chandler stopped Fayette Academy in the bottom of the inning, due to the ten run rule, with MCHS on top 12-1.

Chandler picked up the win on the mound for the Bobcats, going six innings, allowing one run and striking out one.

MCHS had 12 big hits and two errors in the contest. Fayette Academy managed only five hits and also committed two errors.

MCHS improved to 20-7 overall and remained 5-1 in district play with the win.
