A Bethel Springs woman was killed in a car crash on the Highway 45 bypass in Bethel Springs last Friday. Ruby E. Dixon, 46, of Bethel Springs was killed in the accident, according to Trooper Mike Richardson of the Tennessee Highway Patrol, who responded to the crash. One of her passengers, Jerry Ray Miller, 45, of Finger, was injured and transported by helicopter to THE MED in Memphis.

Dixon was driving a black 2003 Lincoln LLS when she entered the highway on the west side, from Buena Vista Road. Dixon pulled into the median, attempting to enter the northbound lane. Dixon “t-boned” a black 2003 Dodge Dooley driven by John H. Gillon, 22, of Gates, Tenn., as he was driving north on the highway. Gillon was not injured. “The black truck had nowhere to go. It was just bad timing,” Richardson said. Dixon had the responsibility for making sure she could pull safely onto the highway, Richardson explained. None of the drivers or passengers were wearing seatbelts. “It's very regrettable,” Richardson said about the accident. A spokesperson from THE MED told the Independent Appeal last Monday that Miller was in satisfactory condition.
