First-ever Halloween Street Party fills downtown Selmer
The Independent Appeal hosted the first-ever Downtown Selmer Halloween Street Party, Costume Contest and Haunted House Oct. 31. We were grateful to be a part of an event that brought so many people together in a sense of community, and we had a wonderful time celebrating the holiday with the more than 1,500 visitors who came out that night. In total, more than half a ton of candy was distributed to local revelers during the event.

MCHS Band takes fifth at state

The McNairy Central High School Marching Band takes fifth place overall in the finals of the Division II Marching Band State Championship in Thompson’s Station, Tenn. The Bobcats received superior ratings last Saturday for overall band, percussion, and drum major. MCHS also earned an excellent rating for color guard.

Runners, runners everywhere: 5Ks top weekend's list of things to do

Approximately 50 runners took their mark at the starting line last Saturday morning at The Marty Community Center in Adamsville for the 3rd Annual 5K Run for the Paws, but the running excitement did not stop there.

Several traveled to Selmer immediately after to compete as part of the 75 participants who registered for the 2nd Annual Fall Hog 5K held at Selmer City Park.
