“Kid” gets All-West TN Soccer

Staff Photos by Amanda Lowrance Soon-to-be senior soccer player, Josh Court, received Jackson Sun’s All-West Tennessee in soccer last Saturday.

McNairy Central’s Josh Court was awarded All-West Tennessee Soccer by the Jackson Sun on Saturday, June 11 at the Jackson Sportsplex.

“I feel honored in getting this award as a junior,” said Josh Court.

After going to the state semifinals this year, he also received top of the Defensive MVP award for the district and Co-MVP team award.

“We are just so proud of him,” said his father, Thomas Court. “All his hard work is paying off.”

Court has held several records that he broke this season including career defensive stop, stops in a season, and he tied the record for stops in a game.

Overall, Court has managed a season and career total of 10/14 shots, 5/8 shots on goal, 4/5 goals, 3/6 assists, 80/137stops, and 92/109 turnovers as a defender.

According to Bobcat Coach Nick Cook, Josh began playing soccer with the upperclassmen when he was in seventh grade.

He followed in the footsteps of his older brother, Adam Court. When Adam began his career with McNairy Central, Josh wanted to be a part of the team as well.

“Josh or “Kid” as we call him asked to be the water boy,” said Cook. “Immediately the older guys learned that he was a fearless defender, and they quickly learned not to dump the ball or suffer the consequences.”

“I just love playing the game,” said Court, “and my family, coach, and teammates push me to be a better player on and off the field.”

Kid received the Co-MVP Award in his sophomore year, but this year has been his best yet, with a finale coming next season.

“The bobcat defense allowed two goals or less in 14 of 15 matches this season,” said Cook.  “This season was our best defensively on school history allowing fewer goals per game than in any other season. A lot of that is because of Josh.”
